Special January 2010 fares for RTW tickets

The dawn of a new year is about nothing if not navel-gazing, and we certainly don’t want to be left out. But this is no ordinary new year – it’s also a new decade (or the last year of the last decade, depending on how you’re counting them, but still). So that calls for some righteous navel-gazing, indeed.

We decided the best kind of navel-gazing we could do right now would be the kind that would also provide you, the soon-to-be-RTW traveler, with useful information as well. (We’re giving like that.) Which is why we’re proud to say that what we found in our metaphorical navels is a little nugget of informaiton that could radically impact your RTW planning.

It’s the ability to plan without a compass.

What do we mean by that? Well, with traditional RTW tickets you’re forced to continue moving in one direction for the duration of your trip. Once you set off on your journey, you can’t backtrack on that RTW ticket. This can certainly still get you around the globe, but it’s awfully restrictive.

That’s exactly why we prefer the kinds of RTW tickets we sell – the ones that let you zig-zag back and forth all over the planet without regard to what direction you’re going or where you came from. How can we do it? Our tickets aren’t typical RTW tickets – they’re really a series of one-way tickets, which give you the ultimate in flexibility.

And we still have some of the best prices on RTW air tickets that you’ll find anywhere.

Here are the January RTW ticket deals – these prices are good through January 31, 2010.

  • New York – London – Amsterdam – Frankfurt – Beijing – Seoul – New York from US$1099 (plus taxes)
  • Los Angeles – Nadi (Fiji) – Sydney – surface – Brisbane – Auckland – Tongatapu (Tonga) – Los Angeles from US$1599 (plus taxes)
  • San Francisco – Singapore – Saigon / Ho Chi Minh – surface – Hanoi – Luang Phrabang – surface – Vientiane – Angkor Wat (Siem Reap) – Bangkok – surface – Koh Samui – Hong Kong – surface – Beijing – Tokyo – San Francisco from US$1649 (plus taxes)

If you don’t fancy any of those itineraries enough to book it, then we welcome you to design your own – with as many zigs and zags as you like – with our RTW trip planner.

Both Canadian citizens with recent passports, both in good health with no medical conditions. Live near Vancouver.

We are flexible on dates of flights; in fact we would prefer to be free to change flight dates without penalties, but we are willing to commit to the date of the first flight, and the last flight if that is necessary.

We can fly out of Vancouver or Seattle and return to Vancouver or Seattle. If the price is right, we might be OK with beginning and returning to SF or LA.

We don’t care which days of the week or what hours any flight leaves.

We want to go to Bali, then NZ , then Australia.

After Australia we could either return to YVR or SEA, perhaps by a south Pacific Island like the Cook Islands, or by The Philippines or Japan, or, we could continue westward around the world. Judging from the web surfing we have done, it could be about the same cost to go around the world as to go around the pacific.

If we continued around the world, we would probably want to go from some where in southern Europe to a city northern Europe by ground transportation which we would arrange ourselves.

We want to spend about 2 weeks in Bali, 2 months in NZ, 2 months in Australia, and 1.5 months in Europe if we go all the way around, for a total of 4.5 to 6 months. 12 months total is OK also.

We wouldn’t mind flying in and out of different cities in NZ, Aus., and Europe. Christchurch to Auckland and Melbourne to Sidney and Spain to Holland or Germany is not to far. We would also consider Greece or Ljubljana to N. Europe.

We would like to start in the first few days in Feb., 2010.

Cost wise, surfing the web, we have found round the world flights for as little as 580 British Pounds (going through SF or LA), and, of course, up to more than $5000.
So, we are thinking in the neighbourhood of $1800-3500. What we are willing to pay depends on the value compared to the advertised ‘good deals’ although we haven’t actually tried to book any of the good deals, so we wouldn’t be surprised if there were some ‘surprises‘. We have had some very good international fares by booking on the internet, so it is possible.
