How to plan your round the world trip

Ready to start planning your round-the-world (RTW) trip? Or perhaps you're still dreaming, but want to get an idea of what you need to do to get everything rolling? Here you go. You're 6 steps away from traveling around the world:

  1. Sign up for BootsnAll's Round-the-World Ticket Watch newsletter. RTW travel is one of our specialties, and this newsletter brings you ticket specials, possible itineraries and stories and inspiration from people who have not only been there, but who prove you can do it too.
  2. Use the TripPlanner and start putting together the places you want to go. Click here to use the BootsnAll TripPlanner – but once you've put together your itinerary, don't stop there...
  3. Submit your itinerary to us and talk to our counselors. The TripPlanner is great for giving a rough idea of fares and prices, but our counselors will help you fine-tune, finalize everything and answer your questions. They can also suggest tweaks in your itinerary that will help you get the most out of your ticket – and probably save you more money too.
  4. Ask questions. BootsnAll's message boards give you a way to ask other travelers about anything and everything travel-related. Get answers to your questions, and perhaps even find people to meet up with on the road.
  5. Let us help sort out everything else with your trip. If your plans include Europe, check out our deals and offerings for Eurail passes – saving you money to help you get around better and enjoy Europe more. Also don't forget to buy travel insurance, so you can cover your tail and everything else while you're on the road. If you need hotel or hostel accommodation, rental cars, or one-way or round-trip air tickets, we can help you out too.

We've also put together a checklist of other things you may want/need to take care of, and that may also give you ideas of other preparation bits and pieces involved in an RTW trip. Click here for the checklist.

  6. Get info. The Traveller's Toolkit and BootsnAll's vast content – including travel stories, travel guides and travelogues – lets you learn as much about your destinations as you want. And now that you've talked to our TripPlanner counselors, finalized your itinerary and bought your RTW ticket, you'll be ready to travel around the world.
